What is Shiatsu? Shi (finger) atsu (pressure)

Shiatsu is hands- on therapy which incorporates the benefits of massage, gentle movement and stretches, with the effectiveness of Acupressure. This combination supports the body’s own natural healing processes, by restoring balanced energy through out the body. Woven into each session is the wisdom of TCM’s Meridian and 5 Element Theories. Assessments using these ancient applications, in conjunction with any pre-existing conditions, will indicate the design of each session. Assessing the recipient for each session, ensures the treatments keep pace with ones’ recovery progress.

Who would Benefit from Shiatsu?

Shiatsu supports the treatment of digestive issues, diabetes, hyper and hypo conditions, chronic fatigue, joint range of motion issues, inflammatory conditions, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, insomnia, trauma, depression and anxiety. Working with the bodies natural rhythms Shiatsu aids in the recovery of jetlag, intense physical training, pregnancy, postpartum recovery and life events such as grief, addictions and burnout.

What is it like to receive Shiatsu?

Modest and adaptable, traditional Shiatsu is given with the recipient fully clothed, on a comfortable mat on the floor but table and chair versions can be easily incorporated to suit the receivers’ mobility and comfort needs. While some aspects of Shiatsu can be stimulating if needed, most sessions are rhythmic and meditative, nurturing and supportive, leaving the recipient feeling cool, connected, relaxed and a little sleepy..
