The practice of Reiki is a Japanese technique that reduces stress and stimulates relaxation to promote healing throughout the body and mind. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy”.
During a Reiki session the practitioner will place their hands gently on various parts of the body while the client lays back and experiences feelings of relaxation, peace, security and well being. Some Reiki practitioners will follow a predetermined sequence allowing their hands to rest on every body placement for a few minutes before moving to the next position. More emphatic professionals will freely move their hands to the places on the body that they “feel” require the greatest healing.
There are some reiki professionals that employ hovering their palms a few inches from the body. For this reason no two Reiki sessions will ever be the same.
